The Skyraider is the old Monogram kit.
Modifications included cutting the flaps from the front of the engine to display
the cylinders - not much need for them in SE Asia :-) Cylinder details
were washed & drybrushed. The cluster bomb dispensers under the wings
were scratch-built (refs weren't very good, but they came out ok) from brass
tubing & plastic stock. No aftermarket parts in this one...
The weathering was all done with pastels, especially the exhaust stains on
the fuselage sides, while looking at a variety of Spad pictures... Some washes
and drybrushing were used to bring out details and give depth to important areas
on the model. The Instrument panel was painted, dial details picked out with a
Prisma pencil, and the dial faces given a drop of Glosscoat. The paints used
were all Floquil Military lacquers - I really like their 34079/34102/30219/36622
paints, as they airbrush more easily and more closely approach what we see in
photos of the period.
Airplane was gloss coated, decaled, and dullcoated to seal in the decals
and weathering. Canopy was waxed with The Treatment to help keep it clear.
As time has passed, I can't remember if I used aftermarket or kit decals - I
think they may have been an out of production Aeromaster sheet but
wouldn't swear to it.
