1/48 Revell Rafale B

For your viewing pleasure, here are some photos of my Revell 1/48 scale Rafale B. Designed and built by Dassault Aviation the Rafale B is a French Air Force two seat, twin-engine delta-wing multi-role fighter/bomber. The Rafale B replaces the two seat Mirage 2000-F. It has also been marketed for export to several countries but has not yet received orders.

Construction
This was an out of the box build and the Revell Rafale B kit box is jammed with parts, many are for weapons I didn’t use. I armed my Rafale B with just two Magic missiles. I also gave it two 1250 liter wing tanks. Surface detail of the parts is excellent, nicely engraved panel lines. Construction of this kit was lengthy, but for the most part, the parts fit is quite good—it went together nicely.

Painting
Paints used for the aircraft model were airbrushed with Model Masters and Floquil enamel paints. I airbrushed the model for a factory fresh paint job using Dark Ghost Grey. Landing gears and wheel wells were painted with Floquil Bright Silver.

Decals
The kit provides decals for two aircraft. I chose to go with the much admired livery of a Rafale B that participated in the 2006 Tiger Meet. Decaling was a bit challenging because of the large decals and the large area to be covered. However, the decals were pretty decent. They were a bit thick, but behaved beautifully. There was no silvering and they conformed well to the model with a little help from Micro Sol Setting Solution. Anyone wishing to build this model and use the 2006 Tiger Meet decals, be advised, do not install part 36 (twin fixed ventral fins) on the vertical stabilizer until after you apply the decals. The decals provide a slot for part 36. I installed the ventral fins before decaling and as a consequence I cut the decals at the slot so the decals would fit properly.

Comments
Overall building the Revell Rafale B was a good experience; the kit went together pretty well. The kit provides nice detail and the decals performed well. The Tiger Meet livery makes this model an eye catcher. Enjoy the photos.
