1/32 Tamiya F-15I

Converting F-15E to an F-15I Israeli RA'AM with lots of electronics

This model was built with lots of conversions.  I decided to install in the model as much lectronic devices as I could.  It's a very large model and made it possible for me to add the conversions you could see in this article pictures.  The Tamiya parts assembled very easily, the only exception is when you join the wings to the fuselage, other wise all  parts assembled very well.  In order to convert the F-15E to Israeli F-15-I I used Cutting Edge conversion CEC32074.

It enabled me to convert the: nozzles, CFT intake, port fin tip radome, rear fuselage extension, GPS, ECM, and FCM  Antennas.  I used IsraDecal decals number IAF-18 & IAF-19 in order to obtain Hammers Squadron Aircraft from early 2000.  The Eagle that I applied on the model was only on one Aircraft, number 267. Today a smaller and different eagle are applied on the aircraft.  I also used the IsraDecal reference book F-15I Ra'am in IAF service by Ra'anan Weiss http://www.isradecal.com/iafb_7.html

I used LED's in order to get light in places I wanted like: wing and tail tips, cockpit monitors for pilot and navigator, front landing gear, root of the wings.

In places that I had difficulty to place a LED I transported the light with 0.75 mm Fiber Optic attached to the LED.  To simulate the rotation of the turbines I placed two DC motors.  All the electronic wire comes from inside the fuselage: pilot's cockpit monitors, front lending gear, led for wings, tail tips, and root wings.  I drilled a 1 mm a hole in the bottom of the left and right landing gear , I used the metal landing gear as conductors for voltage: left will bring the negative (-) and right will bring the plus (+). Metal pins will get inside the holes I drilled and deliver the voltage from a base that the model will be standing on.  Tamiya supplies screws to attach the landing gear and I used them to also attach the wires suppling the voltage to the inside components LED's and two motors.  The pins that come out from the base get inside the holes in the landing gear.  Under the box those pins are connected to 6 volts batteries.

On the bottom side of the base the model is standing on, I connected also chips with audio voice for a supersonic jet engine.  I painted the model with the IAF scheme 4 colors: FS30219, FS34424, FS33531, and FS36375.  I applied IsraDecal decals number IAF-18 & IAF-19 in order to obtain Hammers squadron Aircraft from early 2000.  You can see the lights on the pilot and navigator monitor cockpits.  Top side of the aircraft armed with two Raytheon Aim-120c AMRAAM and 2 RAFAEL PYTHON 4 Missiles.  Bottom side of the aircraft is armed with 2 Jdam Bombs and one GBU-28 Bomb. Also Equipped with Lockheed Martin an/aaq-14 lantrin and Lockheed martin an/aaq-13 lantrin.  I didn't glue the canopy and the nose.

The Model Took First prize in 1/32 category on Israel IPMS 2006 Annual Show .
