  Greece Independence Day 2007

Here are some photos of JK782, a Spitfire Mk.Vc that served with the 335th Royal Hellenic Air Force Squadron during WWII.  335th operated from Egypt early in the war and later from Northern Italy against the Axis forces.  In late 1944 it returned to Greece were it took action against the retreating German forces.  For this model I kit bashed a 1/48 Tamiya Spitfire Mk.Vb with a "C" wing from Hasegawa's 1/48 Spitfire Mk.IX.  I also used some of the cockpit details from the latter kit.  The Sutton harness was created from lead foil and the buckles from very thin plastic sheet.

The finished model was painted with various metallic tones using Tamiya acrylic paints I did subtle weathering as unpainted Spits usually belonged to the squadron leader and thus kept in a better condition.  The roundels and serials were cut and masked using Tamiya masking tape while the light blue of the Greek roundels was mixed based on reference from IPMS Greece.

Overall, an enjoyable build that kept me busy for over 6 months.  Special thanks to all my friends at www.modelclub.gr and my girlfriend Sasha for the help and support. www.modelclub.gr and my girlfriend Sasha for the help and support.

Keep on modeling!
