1/72 Revell Red Arrows Hunter

Silly Week 2008

I built this model in one day while on vacation in England in 2006.  Every time we visit England (my birthplace) my wife spends a day shopping with my aunt.  I decided to build a model on this 'day off', so I picked up a Revell Hunter since I knew this was an easy kit to build with just a few tools.

I also picked up a Revell/Italeri Red Arrows Hawk with the intention of bringing it home, but as I looked at the Hunter I wondered how the Reds decals would fit.  Amazingly well, it turned out!

So the Red Arrows of the late 70s gained a slightly more impressive machine than the diminutive Hawk.

I built this using a hobby knife, superglue, the Revell glue that came with the kit, the Revell brush, a roll of tape, a 4-way nail file/polisher a can of Tamiya gloss red, a can of Tamiya silver, three pots of Revell acrylic, and a bottle of Johnsons Kleer (Future).  With careful sanding and dry-fitting it went together with no filler whatsoever.  The gloss finish is entirely from the Tamiya paint, with Future only being used to get the decals to settle nicely with a gloss finish.
