Here is my 1/48
Academy F-5E Lightning. This kit came from a friend who gave up on it and
I was planning to "cannibalize" it for spares. However, when I
was researching on US photo reconnaissance squadrons that served in the
Philippines during WWII, I decided to patch it up and continue where my friend
left off. After a few "minor surgeries" and assembly of the rest
of the parts, I coated the kit with Mr. Surfacer 1000 to hide any
blemishes. I painted the tail stripes and after masking, I airbrushed
the entire model with automotive acrylic gloss black. Then came an overall
coat of Gunze Mr.Color No. 8 (Silver) and considerable drying time, I applied
the olive drab anti glare paint. The ailerons and other control surfaces
were sprayed with flat aluminum and the entire model was given a light wash of
thinned black paint. The prop spinners were painted with Gunze lacquers.
For the wheels, I used a resin cast patterned after the ones from the
original kit. ( Special thanks to Mr. Bong Marfori for casting the
resin wheels) I used the kit supplied US roundels and the black
"eightball" insignia. The No. 90 was from my spare decals and
the tail markings were custom printed decals.
