This
is the superb Tamiya 1/48 Viper built to represent ACFT 613 of the Republic of
Singapore Air Force's 143 Squadron "Phoenix". I built this Block 52
Viper by taking the NSI/PW intake/engine combo from the Block 25/32 ANG kit and
combining it with the Block 50 kit. The AIFF antenna on the nose was taken from
a Kinetic Viper as were 2 extra A-A missile pylons.

The
airframe was painted in the "standard" 3-tone Viper scheme with
Gunze arcylic paints. The colours used were H305 for FS36118, H306 for
FS36270 and H308 for FS36375. The radome was a custom blend of H306 and
H305. It was given a black enamel wash while the hydraulic stains on the
flaps and rudder were done with brown enamel paint.
As the RSAF's
single-seat Vipers are utilised mainly in the air-defence role, I decided to arm
it with a full air-to-air loadout of 2 AIM-120C AMRAAMs, 2 AIM-9M Sidewinders, 2
AIM-9X Sidewinders, 2 370 gallon wing tanks and 1 300 gallon centre-line tank. The
static discharge wicks (16 in all) were done by using the bristles of an old
toothbrush cut to the appropriate length and superglued on to the plane. They
were then painted black with a white tip.
Greetings from
Singapore
