This new decal sheet from Cutting Edge Modelworks includes markings for four different 1/48 N1K2-J Shiden-Kai 's.  The recommended kit for these decals is the 1/48 Hasegawa kit.

The first aircraft is a N1K2-J Shiden-Kai # 343-C-45 flown by Lt. Takashi Oshibuchi of 343 Kokutai, Hikotai 701 in May 1945.  The paint scheme for this aircraft is overall Dark Green (aprox. FS 34092) on top and natural metal on the underside.  On the tail is the yellow letter "C" with the yellow numbers 343-45 below it.  The red national insignias on the fuselage have a white border.  Oshibuchi, the squadron 701 Leader, used the 60kg No. 27 aerial burst rockets for the first time against American bombers on May 5, 1945.  There is 2 diagonal white fuselage bands directly behind the cockpit.  The wing leading edges are yellow.

The second aircraft is a N1K2-J Shiden-Kai # 343-B-20 of 343 Kokutai, Hikotai 407 in March 1945.  The paint scheme for this aircraft is overall Dark Green (aprox. FS 34092) on top and natural metal on the underside.  On the tail is the yellow letter "B" with the yellow numbers 343-20 below it.  The red national insignias on the fuselage have a dark border and the white #20 on the centre.  The wing leading edges are yellow.

The third aircraft is a N1K2-J Shiden-Kai # 343-A-15, US Navy (former 343 Kokutai) from Omura airfield on October 16, 1945.  The paint scheme for this aircraft is overall Dark Green (aprox. FS 34092) on top and natural metal on the underside.  On the tail is the original yellow code letters have been painted over with what appears to be Olive drab.  On the tail are the tail codes TAI 001 in yellow.  TAI stands for "Technical Air Intelligence".  The Japanese national insignia on the fuselage have been painted over with American markings.  The wing leading edges are yellow.

The fourth aircraft is a N1K2-J Shiden-Kai # 343-A-02 flown by Lt. Masai Matsumura of 343 Kokutai from Matsuyama Airfield in March, 1945.  The paint scheme for this aircraft is overall Dark Green (aprox. FS 34092) on top and natural metal on the underside.  On the tail is the yellow letter "A" with the yellow numbers 343-02 below it.  The red national insignias on the fuselage have a white border.  The white fuselage numbers in the centre of the fuselage national insignias are 02.    The wing leading edges are yellow.  This aircraft  was flown by Matsumura during a mission to the Amami and Kikai Islands on April 12 1945.

As a special bonus....all the markings for these 4 planes are also included in 1/72 on this decal sheet.

The decals were flawlessly printed and in perfect register and the clear carrier film is trimmed very close to the crisply printed colored areas.  The colours look good and will cover very well.  The markigns for the captured aircraft in US markings is interesting.  All of the larger white numbers come in duplicate sets to provide extra coverage to avoid any opacity problems.

The instructions are clear and includes 2 view drawings.

A very nice decal sheet and a treat to see some markings for Japanese Aircraft from WW2.

I would like to thank Cutting Edge Modelworks for providing me with this review sample.
